Equal Sign are experienced in many video compression technologies, particularly those developed for video delivery over the Internet. The three formats we have chosen to showcase on this site are Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Flash, Apple QuickTime and Microsoft Windows Media.

The most up-to-date version of each media player is available for free download from the links on the left hand side of this page.

Please feel free to view each of the media formats and reach your own decision on which is appropriate for your site.

Equal Sign - Progressive download and streaming

Each of the formats on this site are delivered using a technique called 'Progressive Download'. This method is similar to 'Streaming' in that only a small portion of the video needs to be downloaded onto your computer before the video clip will begin to play. Unlike Streaming the entire video clip will be stored temporarily on your computer once the download is complete. In this respect it is the same as the traditional 'Download' method.

Video Download and Playback Internet Methods

The advantage of Progressive Download is that while there are problems associated with Streaming video moving through firewalls and sometimes performance issues arise, these problems do not often occur with this technique. Equal Sign wil generally utilise Progressive download on our Internet projects except when a video clip has a long duration or the video is live. In these instances Streaming delivery is more suitable.
